The third proxy server is the Serving–CSCF. This function loads user information (both
the user authentication and user data) from the HSS, manages the caller's session, and
establishes security from the UE to the IMS network. It also sets up billing with the
charging system.All signaling for the call must go through the subscriber's home network S-CSCF. The
actual media does not have to.
