On the Applicationslayer, databases contain all of the information required to manage subscribers and the
network. Note there are two types of databases.
The Home Subscriber Service (HSS) contains all of the HLR, AuC, and EIR
information about a subscriber for each network (IMS, CS-CN, and PS-CN); as well
as authentication, security information, and location information for roaming
subscribers or subscribers with more than one UE.
When an operator has more than one HSS, the Subscription Location Function (SLF)
identifies which HSS contains a given subscriber's records.
