Modulation is needed to convey the data properly to other end. lets take an example if you are throwing a paper to your friend which is far from u it wont reach him instead if u wrap the paper onto the stone and throw it will reach him easily same is the case here paper is your voice wrapping paper onto the stone is modulation

Binary Phase Shift Keying modulation is very robust but not efficient.
