D(Data) channel is used for signalling

D, channel is the signalling channel is the channel mainly used in the isdn switches for call control and management of isdn cpe,and also carries varous signalling information from BTS to BSC in the mobile networks etc. The protocol used in the channel is LAPD.

A channel used by ISDN transport services. A BRI includes a 16-Kbps D channel, and a PKI includes a 64-Kbps D channel. These channels are used strictly by the carriers to manage services over the customer's ISDN line.
