Code Division Multiple Access is a method for describing physical radio channels. Data intended for a specific channel is modulated with that channels code. These are typically pseudorandom in nature, and posses favourable correlation properties to ensure physical channels are not confused with one another. CDMA techniques are employed within cdmaOne™, CDMA2000™ and UMTS

There are few different CDMA standards.
One is cdma2000 family standard which uses 1.25 MHz carrier spacing or chip rate of 1.2288Mcp(cdma2000 1x, EV-DO)
The other is W-CDMA family of standard which uses 5MHz carrier spacing or 3.84Mcps(W-CDMA, HSDPA, HSUPS)
Currently there are on-going works for new standards which combines CDMA and OFDM.
