IMS provides services for multimedia functions using a Media Resource Function
Controller (MRFC) to control a Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP).
These two functions act as a MGC and MGW for special audio, video, data, and
streaming functions; such as set up and manage multimedia conferences, translate
between various encoding methods (CODECS), and provide multimedia
announcements and call management.
