Static Routing is a process in which network administrator or engineer manually tells the router using a command that how to reach the specific destination and after that router use that path to send any packets destined to that destination. Static routing invlves manual overhead but there is a disadvantage which is that if a path goes down to a specific destination then network administrator need to manually manage that problem by entering the alternate path using a command. Whenever there is a topology change within the internetwork administrator manually update the entry. Interface of the next hop in the path has to defined that packets must take while heading towards the destination. These static routes defined precise control over the IP internetwork routing behaviour as administrator can alter the routes as needed. Static route re configured for connectivity to a remote network that is not directly connected to your network or to a network that is accessed by only one single route (link). Advantage of static route is that there is no processing overhead or table lookup for evrey packet to a specific destination or no overhead of routing protocol. Dynamic Routing is another method of learning about available routes and accomodating the changes through the use of dynamic routing protocol that run over router. Dynamic routing does not involve manual reconfiguration in case of topology change or link failure, routing protocols are use to gather knowledge about the neighbouring routers and links to distant networks.
