In general the BTS are located at the center of the cell then the cells are said to be (center-excited cells) and if the BTS are on three of the six cell vertices then cell are called (edge-excited cells).
The main purpose is that a cell must be designed to serve the weakest mobiles within the footprint, and these are typically located at the edge of the cell
