In general by reference of sagitraz Registrar server—UAs register their location with a registrar server, which places that information into a location database. A registrar server responds to location requests from other servers. The server can maintain the location database locally, or it can employ a separate location server. Cisco routers and CallManager 5.x can act as SIP registrar servers.

A Registrar Server receives the UA’s registration requests and updates the Location Server with any changes in status. Usually the Registrar Server and the Proxy Server are one and the same.
• Registration binds the Internet Protocol (IP) address currently being used by a User Agent to their SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI)
• Registration must be completed successfully before a UA can authenticate to a network and before a session can be established
