Inband signaling is used between two exchanges. Outband Signaling is used between a switch and STP.

Inband signaling is used between two exchanges. For example a PRI connected to media gateway uses inband signaling to send setup message.

Outband Signaling is used between a switch and STP (A link) or other switch using F links. For examples ISUP message are transported to STP using Outband Signaling
