WIND is today one of Greece’s largest telecommunications operators with an annual turnover of €1,1 billion and more than 4 million customers. It was founded in 1992 as a subsidiary of Telecom Italia and ever since it was established as the technology leader of the Greek mobile telephony market thanks to its innovative products and services. In 2005 the company was acquired by Apax Partners και Texas Pacific Group, two of the biggest international investment funds.
In November, 1993 Pannon GSM Telecommunications Ltd. signed a concession agreement and in March of the following year started to operate on the 900 MHz frequency. In 1999 the company won a tender for the 1800 MHz frequency. In November, 2000 it started to operate on the 1800 MHz frequency in Budapest, and in March 2001, the whole country.

Vodafone Italia is an owned subsidiary of Vodafone Group plc (76.86%) & Verizon (23.14%), and like other European operators, uses GSM technology; it is presently rolling out an UMTS network.

LMT has operated on the mobile market since 1992, and is the first mobile network operator in the country. The service was established as an operator of the NMT system. Within a couple of years of starting, the company has undergone rapid development. In January 1995, a GSM network has been in operation, and in December 1999 a dual 900/1800 MHz network was opened. From 1st September 2002, LMT's customers have been able to use data transmission services across all of Latvia. From December 2004, a UMTS 3G mobile communication network has been available to LMT users.
