In 1994, Crown Castle International (CCI) began with 133 communication towers in Southwest Texas. In 1997, CCI acquired Crown Communications and enhanced its portfolio by approximately 200 towers. The company went public in 1998. Today, as a result of numerous acquisitions, including the acquisition of Global Signal in January 2007, Crown Castle owns a portfolio of over 23,500 towers in the United States as well as 1,300 sites in Australia. Crown Castle has become the leader in the shared wireless infrastructure industry due to its emphasis on technical and strategic innovations.
