Optimend™ is PhasOptx' new splice for fibre optics in shape memory alloy. This 2 to 4 millimetre long reusable mechanical splice aligns passively the fibre cores, holds the fibres without glue or epoxy, and can be reused and installed in temperatures ranging from – 80 °C to over 200 °C, all enabled through the use of the alloy. In addition to standardizing our splice, PhasOptx is working on a multiple-hole version of its miniature reusable splice for up to 4 independent connexions, on installation tools, and just recently, on an optical sensor using a holding system in shape memory alloy.
