Walchand College of Engineering is situated midway between Sangli and Miraj cities at Vishrambaug, Sangli. The WCE campus is located on nearly 102.50 acres of land on the southern side of Sangli – Miraj road. In 1947, college made a modest beginning with Civil Engineering undergraduate course. (B.E. Civil), with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently undergraduate courses in electrical and mechanical engineering, B.E.(Elec) and B.E.(Mech), with intake capacity of 60 each were introduced during the years 1950 and 1951 respectively.
Surrounded on two sides by the historical Deepor Beel (a huge natural Wetland now declared a bird sanctuary by the Govt. of India) and ever –green hills on the outskirts of Guwahati city, about 13 km on the west, Assam Engineering College spells a magical impact on the visitors. Assam Engineering College was established in 1955, the first undergrad uate engineering college in the northeastern India. It started with Civil Engineering discipline, and within a few years other departments came into existence. To educate the young generation of such poor section of society, the Mandal has been conducting Colleges of Arts, Commerce, Science, Education (Degree & Diploma), Engineering streams and Polytechnic, Industrial Training Center, Pharmacy (Degree & Diploma), Horticulture,Institute of Business Management and Reasearch, Advanced Study Center of English and Indian Languages are the other units which the Mandal conducts.
