The BSA is an Independent Crown Entity (ICE) set up by the Broadcasting Act 1989. We report to Parliament through the Minister of Broadcasting. Our values of fairness, integrity and respect inform our approach to the quasi-judicial role of determining complaints, and the role we play in helping to improve understanding between broadcasters and audiences. Our operational objectives are the determination of complaints, the review and approval of codes of broadcasting practice, and communications and research about broadcasting standards and the wider broadcasting environment.
