In particular, this involves the Postal Act, the Telecommunications Act, the lower regulations based on these acts and European regulations. Legislation and regulations are intended to promote competition on these markets, giving consumers more choice and fair prices. OPTA can take enforcement measures against a provider if the party holds an excessively strong market position (significant market power or SMP). Such a position can limit competition. In situations of this type, OPTA can impose obligations pertaining to interconnection, network access and tariff regulation.
