To regulate the sectors of electronic communications, e-commerce and posts with a view to achieving sustainable competition, enabling customer choice and value for money, coincident with contributing to the development of an environment that is conducive to investment, and continued social and economic growth.

Established in 1961, the Broadcasting Authority monitors and regulates all Radio and Television broadcasts originating from the Maltese Islands. It is an independent statutory body consisting of a Chairman and four other members appointed by the President of Malta acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister given after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition. The Broadcasting Authority supervises all local broadcasting stations and ensures their compliance with legal and licence obligations as well as the preservation of due impartiality; in respect of matters of political or industrial controversy or relating to current public policy; while fairly apportioning broadcasting facilities and time between persons who belong to different political parties. The Broadcasting Authority ensures that local broadcasting services consist of public, private and community broadcasts that offer varied and comprehensive programming to cater for all interests and tastes. The Broadcasting Authority’s aim is to help the Maltese public better understand how its values and diversities shape our unique personality by regulating local broadcasting services in open flexible ways fostering creativity and better programming.
